Many mornings, you probably tell your children that they are bad for not going to go to school and you doubt if it really is as bad to miss classes for a day. However, it is not a simple decision. Children are a factory of snot and it is normal that they cough or sneeze often. There are some rules that can help you make that decision.
5 Diseases and reasons why you shouldn’t go to school
1 – Nasal Congestion and Cough
A stuffy nose or an occasional cough is not a sufficient reason to skip a day of school. However, if the mucus is very thick or a cough is very frequent and noisy, it is best to stay at home. If a cough persists for several days, or if it’s accompanied by a fever, the child should be taken to the doctor.
2 – Skin problems
The skin of our children changes daily. When we notice a rash that worries us, we must take our child to the doctor so that they can evaluate it. If you suspect that they have lice, they should stay home. You should also notify the school so that they can report anonymously to the rest of the parents.
With conjunctivitis, they must also stay at home as it is quite contagious. Your child will wake up with their eyes closed like a crust crusting. Go and see your doctor in all cases.
3 – Gut pain
If your child has diarrhea or vomiting, they should stay home and let 24 hours pass since the last incident. In addition, you must ensure that all members of the household wash their hands thoroughly because the intestinal viruses tend to be quite contagious. Try to have your child drink plenty of fluids.
4 – Fever
Fever symptom can be quite evident. If you measure the temperature in the mouth, you’ll have a fever above 38OC. Children should be at home for 24 hours without fever before returning to school.
5 – Pain
This symptom is very complicated because the children complain about anything. If your child is complaining, if they can’t play through the pain or if you see an obvious injury, let them stay home and go to a doctor.
Remember that a mother is the one who knows their child best and therefore will be the one who has to decide. However, you should take them to the doctor for a professional opinion on their state of health.
Headaches also can turn into a whole nightmare, especially if you are not able to identify the cause.
