The world of health and wellness on many occasions seems to depend more on the fashion than anything else. You might have heard that an egg a day is bad or salt is the culprit of all your ills, among other findings but you probably could never imagine hearing that according to a new study, drinking alcohol and smoking can prolong your life.
A study from the University of California-Irvine has revealed to the world that the consumption of moderate amounts of alcohol and coffee is directly related to the longevity of the people who incorporate it into their diet. There is no trap or cardboard, the key word here is moderate.
Coffee and alcohol are the keys to longevity
The study began in 2003 and examined the longest living candidates that they could find, more than 1700 nonagenarians were the study group and thanks to their lifestyle they found that those who drank coffee and alcohol moderately, lived longer than those who practiced abstinence.
Being overweight was also a factor that makes them live longer, “people who were overweight at 70 lived longer than those who were at a moderate weight or below“.
“Moderate drinking increases longevity“
The study showed that those who drank two glasses of wine or beer each day decreased by 18% their chances of premature death, and those who drank two cups of coffee a day reduced by 10%.
Don’t cast to drinking just yet, the study also proved that those who do exercise regularly and keep their free time occupied with a hobby live longer than lazy people.
