These photographs and the stories behind them will give you the creeps:
1 – Surgeon operating on himself
In the year 1961, the surgeon Leonid Rogozov was only 27 years old and was forced to undergo appendicitis surgery on himself under local anesthesia. He was the only surgeon of the Soviet Antarctic Expedition, hence that was the only option.
2 – Teeth of Viking
The Vikings are known for their peculiar practices, including wearing tattoos all over her skin. Another more surprising thing was the horizontal lines on their teeth as it looks in the picture. It was a way to tell the enemy that if they were willing to do that to themselves, what would they do to them if they fell wrong.
3 – Black Plague
The black plague was a large part of the population of Scotland and terrorized its inhabitants for quite some time. The doctors that treated this disease wore a suit that covered all parts of their body and a face mask that made them look like birds.
The ‘nose’ of this mask had a filter that helped keep bad odors at bay and the potential spread of the disease.
4 – Blue people
This is no legend but is a family from Kentucky who suffered from this curious discoloration in the skin. With time, a hematologist found the reason for the suffering from this condition and was able to fix it.
5 – Bandage feet
Legend has it that in the tenth century in China, a princess began the practice of taping the feet because she liked the small feet of other women. Since then it became a fashion trend because it was a symbol of wealth. The practice spread until 1912 when it was banned.
6 – Evil meteor
Ann Hodges is the only person recorded who has been affected by the fall of a meteorite. In the year 1954, the girl was watching television when a piece of meteorite fell and pierced the roof of her house before hitting her on the thigh.
7 – Foot craters
This condition causes the skin to appear to have craterlike bites that affect the foot and put pressure on the soles of the feet. Sometimes it can appear on the palms of the hands.
8 – Hydrotherapy
Spas help us to relax because the baths and showers of hot water for a prolonged period tends to have a relaxing effect. This is the reason why many mental hospitals used hydrotherapy to treat their patients.
9 – Nails instead of hair
It is a mystery of medicine still to be resolved. Only 28 years old, Shanya Isom suffered an allergic reaction that resulted in all the hair follicles on her skin beginning to grow nails.
10 – Eyes of Hiroshima
This child became blind after witnessing in person the explosion of Hiroshima.
11 – Starry eyes
At 42 years of age, an electrician from California came into contact with 14,000 volts of electricity that left him with a cataract in the shape of a star in their eyes.
12 – Heart of vampire
It is said that this mummified heart belongs to the vampire Auguste Delagrange, who was responsible for the death of 40 people in the first decade of the 1900s. At least that is what the owner says on eBay.
13 – Evolution
Although they may at first glance seem like worms, is a species of animal called Cecilia, which are vertebrates with a backbone. Similar to the salamanders, and when they come out of the eggs are already adults.
14 – Jenglot
It is said that this strange creature corresponds with the corpses of men who practiced magic and were carriers of doom.
15 – Delphine LaLaurie
After a fire in their house in the year 1835, the firemen discovered that this woman of high society had dozens of other slaves mutilated and disfigured. she had carried out horrifying experiments and though the police tried to stop her, managed to escape and was never found.
16 – Ball of fur
The trichobezoars are bags of human hair, a product of a disease called trichophagia, that causes sufferers to eat their own hair. The photograph corresponds to a giant ball of hair that was extracted from a patient.
17 – Therapy of smiles
A few years ago this was the treatment for depressed women who were sent to the psychiatric facilities by their husbands. The doctors believed that if you were smiling all day they would combat depression.
18 – Stoneman Syndrome
This disease causes loss of mobility as a result of ossification of the connective tissue and muscle. At times can hinder the ability to speak and eat until the sufferer is completely paralyzed.
19 – We are atoms
This image shows us that the human body is composed of four main elements: Oxygen 65%, Carbon 18.5%, Hydrogen 9.5% – Nitrogen 3.3%.
