We all know the world of Oz thanks to the famous movie The Wizard of Oz, a musical film classic. Building on the success of this great movie a few decades ago, it opened an amusement park that was intended to be a revolution, but it is a real nightmare for all who visit.
Land Of Oz, the most terrifying theme park
The park is located in North Carolina and was built to try to boost the economy of Mountain Beech in the decade of the 70’s. In their first summer with their doors open, the park received almost half a million visitors and is accessed thanks to a yellow brick road formed by 44 thousand bricks.
The park has been plagued by death since its inception. Its owner, Grover Robbins, died of bone cancer six months before the opening of the park.
The successful actress Debbie Reynolds brought a young Carrie Fisher to its opening when she was only 13 years old.
Although it may seem very large and successful, in its beginnings the park had very few attractions. The park was destroyed in a fire in 1975. No one knows the origin of this fire, still remains an unsolved mystery.
As if that weren’t enough, a few thieves took advantage of the problems to enter to steal a large part of the scenarios and the replicas of the movie The Wizard of Oz.
For the decade of the 80s, the park had replaced the original costumes by imitations crappy and very poor attractions. This led the park to close for more than 25 years.
It was not until the mid-90s when it began to be restored, and after several years, start to be used. Instead of going back to being a theme park, the owners decided to rent the rooms as homes and cabins for tourists.
At twelve midnight each day, you can hear in the park the theme song ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’. Those who have stayed there say it is very strange and kind of scary when the song breaks the silence of the night.
When the entire park was already restored and in perfect operation, the owners decided to close it for 363 days a year. That is to say, it’s only open one weekend of the year for those brave mortals who dare to face the ghosts and strange events that keep happening there.
