If you face your fears, you’ll achieve much more in life. Some people can overcome these fears with a little effort, but others need more work and some tips to solve this problem.
8 Tricks to not get nervous when speaking in public
1 – Redefine the public
You have to change the way you view your audience. Change roles and think that they are companions instead of teachers. So all of you will be nervous. Or think that they are friends that you hadn’t seen for years. Forget the idea that they are babies, or that there is no one there because it is very difficult to convince one’s self that they are alone in a room full of people.
2 – Make mistakes intentionally
When you make a mistake and show awareness of it you can gain control of your audience. If you make them laugh and interact with you, your presentation will be a little bit informal and you’ll make it more memorable than others.
3 – Discuss your personal opinion
When you make the exposure, you try to explain some of your personal thoughts on the matter. Remember that you need to prepare it beforehand even though you want to pretend that it has been an impromptu auction. This will differentiate your presentation from the rest.
4 – Support the nerves
You would admit to the public that you’re a little nervous. When you do, they will be more lenient if they notice your nerves and you will feel more relaxed. In addition, you’ll type the surprise factor as it will probably give them the best presentation in spite of the nerves.
5 – Use visual aids
Test with slides or with notes that deliveries to each member of the public. With this, you’ll distract them and half the time their eyes won’t be on you.
6 – Focus on a single person
What most terrifies us is the crowd. To overcome this, you must focus on one person and devote your entire exposure to him. If someone asks a question, focus on that person and respond as if the two of you are alone in a coffee shop talking.
7 – Remember that you are telling a story
You need to tell a story and do so in an entertaining way. Focus on those things that you would like to listen to and decide if the content is compelling or not.
8 – Keep it simple
The presentations should be divided into simple points to allow the listeners to retain the information. Remember that a grouping of simple things is very powerful.
Have fun when you talk in public. Test new ways of doing presentations and have fun. Experience with human behavior and you will get to understand that public speaking is not so bad. Think that there are no failures, just some different results.
